What’s new in 2020?
We at Sovereign Travel like to be ahead of the curve and are always in tune with what’s happening in the hotel world. We have seen several new hotel openings lately, many from recognised brands which are known for their all round excellence. Here’s a snap shot of a few of the latest additions to the luxury hotel world and why we think they might appeal.
The Oberoi Marrakech
In December 2019 Oberoi Hotels opened the new jewel in their crown, The Oberoi Marrakech. Known for spacious accommodation, warm hospitality, personalised wellness and excellent cuisine Oberoi hotels are popular. Tranquillity, authenticity and a sense of location is what stands The Oberoi Marrakech out from the crowd and puts it on the map as the new place to stay in the city.
Lefay Resort and Spa, Dolomites
Last year also saw the entrance of Lefay Resort and Spa in the Italian Dolomites. This is a true skiers gem incorporating excellent skiing in Madonna di Campiglio, luxury accommodation and a massive spa spanning four floors of the hotel. The views from the hotel are therapeutic in itself!
Six Senses Hotels, Resorts & Spas
Six Senses Shaharut will open in the Israeli Negev Desert to guests in May this year. We love the Six Senses philosophy which encompasses sustainability, sensitivity to the environment, a unique range of experiences relevant to the destination and the latest and most effective wellness programmes. They are also experts at the art of relaxation and slowing down. Six Senses Shaharut, inspired by the natural landscape fully embraces this philosophy. The suites and villas are built from local rocks and furnishings are sourced from local artists. As well as a tented Bedouin dining experience and an indoor and outdoor pool, the hotel will offer a gym, Six Senses spa, yoga studio, nail bar, open air cinema and a kid’s club. If you are keen on a camel safari, you can do that too as the hotel will have their own camel stables.
Six Senses are also opening their first city property this year; in New York. We will be keeping a close eye on how they manage to incorporate their philosophy into a city centre retreat however with an enormous spa and members club spanning 45,000 square feet in their West Chelsea building there is plenty of room for wellness, mindfulness, meditation, relaxation, fitness and specialist treatments.
