Project Description

The beauty of the Amalfi Coast

Thoughts of the undisputed beauty of the Amalfi Coast evokes images of stunning coastlines, a jet set lifestyle and famous towns that read like a Hollywood cast list.  The Amalfi Coast stretches for 15 miles along the Sorrentine Peninsula approximately 175 miles south east of Rome.

This beautiful corner of Italy is deemed an outstanding example of Mediterranean beauty by UNESCO and is home to some of the country’s finest hotels: we have picked three Sovereign favourites.

Belmond Hotel Caruso

Set on a cliff edge in Ravello, 1,000 feet above sea level, Belmond Hotel Caruso offers your own private balcony looking over tiered groves of orange and lemon vines and the stunning Amalfi Coast.  Ravello itself is incredibly peaceful and charming with an air of glamour not in small part inherited from its famous past holidaymakers including Greta Garbo, Jacqueline Kennedy and Tennessee Williams.  Belmond Hotel Caruso epitomises this glamour.   This historic 11thcentury sanctuary offers stunning architecture, beautiful fragrant gardens and airy, elegant rooms and suites which seem to float above the coastline and make the best of the view.  Hand picked antique furniture and historic details add to the unique element in each room and suite.  Take advantage of the spectacular infinity pool, fitness centre and spa as well as a courtesy shuttle bus to Amalfi and Positano and complimentary daily boat tour.

Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel and Spa

A short hop along the coast, just 10 minutes from the town of Amalfi and a little closer to Positano, Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel and Spa majestically perches on the cliff edge. Originally a 17thcentury monastery, the hotel has been affectionately and sympathetically restored into an exclusive boutique hotel and a luxury spa with generous grounds and four levels of landscaped terraces.  Just 20 rooms and suites have been beautifully created preserving the unique architectural aspects of the old monastery.  Comfortable and elegant, each room and suite captures the mesmerising view through framed windows, private balconies and bougainvillaea adorned terraces. The spa at the Monastero Santa Rosa is the height of relaxation and dinner in the hotel’s one Michelin starred Ristorante A Refettorio, where the best locally sourced ingredients combine with Chef Bob’s incredible talent, is an unmissable treat.

Casa Angelina

Another cliff edge gem, in the pretty village of Praiano, is Casa Angelina.  The hotel is a slice of modern minimalism and the emphasis here is on warm hospitality, elegant simplicity, restorative wellness therapies and exceptional food.  Whilst white in design, the warmth of the hotel is apparent through the owner’s multi coloured Murano glass sculptures and fascinating artwork.  The hotel’s 39 rooms and suites are all elegantly designed with many offering uninterrupted views of the sparkling coastline.  The hotel’s signature restaurant, Un Piano nel Cielo, serves excellent Campanian dishes against the backdrop of breathtaking views whilst the indoor and outdoor pools and wellness centre ensure pure relaxation. The secluded Eaudescea Suites which are just a stone’s throw from the sea are the best rooms to stay in with access to the beach and the hotel’s private boats.
