Revisiting the Maldives
It’s been 4 years since my last visit to The Maldives so I was keen to discover for myself what some of the new resorts had to offer. I was glad of the opportunity too, to revisit a couple of old favourites.
Lux South Ari Atoll
First stop was Lux South Ari Atoll, just a 25 minute sea plane journey from Male. Lux properties in the Indian Ocean feel fresh and often a little quirky. A wonderful theme runs through them all whether it be a cinema screening under the stars, the fabulous ME Spa or the superb and ever popular ice cream parlours and legendary coffee shops. Lux South Ari Atoll did not disappoint me – it is excellent value for money and with interconnecting beach pavilion options, is perfect for families.
Huvafen Fushi
Huvafen Fushi is an “old school” favourite and has enjoyed some refurbishments since I was last there. Just a 30 minute speedboat ride from Male, the resort is impressive. The underwater spa is unique and a truly relaxing experience. The resident marine biologist is very keen to share her knowledge with guests and organises Manta Ray feeding; a popular daily event frequented by guests and staff.
Kunuhura
Next on my list was Kanuhura just 40 minutes by seaplane from Male. The beaches are the best I’ve seen in the Maldives and the tiny resort island of Jeunuhura, just a few minutes by speedboat, is superb – a great spot for picnics or lunch at Drift, the beach restaurant. The resort has some superb accommodation options including interconnecting beach pavilions for families or friends.
Varu by Atmosphere
I was lucky enough to visit Varu by Atmosphere which opened in October 2019. The speedboat transfer from Male takes about 40 minutes. This excellent all Inclusive option offers great value for money. The over water villas offer a good standard of comfort with superb light and airy bathrooms. The seafood restaurant, Charcoal, was outstanding with exceptional service. The Varu plan includes complimentary spa treatments at Elena Spa depending on duration of stay.
Joali
Last but not least, I stayed at undisputedly, the most beautiful island of all – Joali. Opened in November 2018 this gorgeous resort boasts magnificent beach and water villas and residences designed to delight the senses with exceptional décor and luxurious living spaces. 40 minutes by seaplane from Male, this resort is exceptional and is by far the most beautiful resort I have ever come across anywhere in the world.
The charming team of butlers will look after you from the moment you arrive and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant staff are knowledgeable and the service is personal and discreet. Just fabulous!
